Xiaomi has announced a significant launch event for Monday, July 4 to introduce the first phones it has created with Leica. The company confirmed that it would be releasing the Xiaomi 12S series on that day in an announcement on its Weibo account.
Leica and Xiaomi established cooperation earlier this year, highlighting the brand's increasing emphasis on cameras. Despite the fact that Xiaomi's camera phones haven't exactly been subpar in the past, the firm expects to be able to compete more favorably with Apple, Samsung, and Google's hottest products. Competitors like Vivo and OnePlus have also teamed up with companies like Zeiss and Hasselblad in recent years, with positive results.
"Xiaomi concentrates on building the best user experience possible and has always wanted to push the boundaries of smartphone photography. Leica and Xiaomi share the same goals and ideas and appreciate each other's industries and advantages. The founder, chairman, and CEO of Xiaomi Group, Lei Jun, stated at the launch that this partnership will provide Xiaomi's imaging strategy a significant boost. The revolutionary technologies, product philosophies, and imaging preferences of both sides have experienced unprecedented in-depth collision and fusion during the cooperation, from optical design to tweaking aesthetic orientations.
Similar remarks were made by Leica's CEO, who stated that the company would help give "excellent image quality, classic Leica aesthetics, [and] unconstrained creativity." Leica previously worked with Huawei on its flagship phones.
The Xiaomi 12S series is likely to be the first fruit of that collaboration, with the Xiaomi 12S Ultra (formerly rumored as the 12 Ultra) serving as the company's flagship camera phone. It will most likely use a Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 processor and a 6.6-inch 1440p AMOLED display with a steady refresh rate. It's also believed to have a quad-camera configuration that rivals, if not outperforms, the Xiaomi 11 Ultra. We're expecting a 50-megapixel main camera, a 48-megapixel ultrawide lens, a 48-megapixel periscope lens for portraiture and zoom, and an unknown fourth sensor which the specifications are unknown We'll learn more about the 12S and 12Pro when Xiaomi unveils the phones on Monday.
